Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, has spoken about his future following his crucial role in helping the North London club maintain its Premier League status. The Portuguese international was the hero in Spurs’ dramatic survival campaign, scoring the decisive goal against Everton that confirmed their top-flight safety and sparked immediate talk of a permanent transfer.

Midfielder ensures Premier League safety

Palhinha has made his intentions clear about continuing with Tottenham after completing his season-long loan from Bayern. The 30-year-old midfielder became a key figure on the final day of the season, netting the winning goal against Everton that sealed Spurs’ survival. His vital strike lifted Tottenham two points clear of the relegation zone, ending what had been a tense and challenging campaign on a positive note.

Palhinha aims for permanent move

Now a fan favourite, Palhinha has expressed his willingness to activate a permanent transfer clause reportedly worth €30 million (£26 million). Speaking about his connection with the club, he said: “Since the first day I arrived, I’ve felt at home. From the supporters to the atmosphere – it’s a top club. Who doesn’t want to play for Tottenham and stay here? I have everything here. But this is like a marriage. What I can say is that I would really like to stay and I’ve enjoyed this season a lot with this club – even though it’s been a tough one.”

Palhinha sees promising future for Spurs

Tottenham managed to avoid relegation after appointing Roberto De Zerbi, who collected 11 points from his seven matches in charge to steer the side to safety. Palhinha, who registered a personal best of five league goals this season, believes the team is now well-positioned to build on this turnaround. He added: “I think next season will hopefully be very different, and I truly believe that. This season will help Tottenham in the future. We need to analyse what we did wrong and what we did well – it will bring big improvement and a big relief after this campaign.”

De Zerbi urges quick action

Manager Roberto De Zerbi has already made it clear that he “100%” wants the deal made permanent, putting the responsibility on the club’s board to finalise the transfer. Although Palhinha remains under contract with Bayern Munich until June 2028, the German club are reportedly open to selling him to reduce their wage bill. Tottenham’s management will therefore need to act swiftly during the summer transfer window to avoid potential competition from other clubs seeking to sign the dynamic midfielder.
