Mythology of Padmini Ekadashi
According to the legend, in Tretayuga, King Kritavirya of Haihaya dynasty was deprived of the happiness of children despite his thousand queens. Despite many efforts and sacrifices, he did not get a son. After this the king went to the forest with his beloved queen Padmini and started rigorous penance. After many years of penance on Gandhamadan mountain, Mother Anusuya advised Queen Padmini to fast on Padmini Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Adhikamas. He told that this fast is very dear to Lord Vishnu and all the wishes are fulfilled by it.
Queen Padmini observed this fast with full devotion and rules. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Vishnu gave him the boon of having a son. Later, a very powerful son named Kartavirya was born to him. There is a religious belief that the person who observes the fast of Padmini Ekadashi with devotion and listens to its story, gets fame, happiness and ultimately Vishnuloka in life.
