Tezzbuzz Desk- The record of sixes has once again come into discussion in the playoff matches of IPL 2026. Veteran batsman Virender Sehwag’s record of most sixes in a match, which has been standing for 12 years, now seems to be in danger. The biggest claim to break this record is considered to be that of young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has impressed everyone with his explosive game this season.

Virender Sehwag had hit 8 sixes while playing a stormy innings of 122 runs in the Qualifier-2 match of 2014. While playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), he played this historic inning against Chennai Super Kings, which till date remains the record for most sixes in a match in the playoffs.

But now the biggest threat to this record is from 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. In the current season, Vaibhav has attracted everyone’s attention with his aggressive batting. He has hit 53 sixes in 14 matches so far, which is the highest figure by any Indian batsman in a season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as the biggest breakout star of IPL at this time. His power-hitting ability reminds him of legends like Chris Gayle and Sehwag. This is the reason why he is being considered the biggest match-winner in the eliminator match.

All eyes will be on Vaibhav in the eliminator match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27th May at Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Stadium, Mullanpur. If he continues in his rhythm then it is almost certain that Sehwag’s record of 8 sixes will be broken.

Apart from this, Vaibhav has now come very close to Chris Gayle’s record of 59 sixes in a season. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether this young batsman can create history in the playoffs or not.
