Alexander Nübel’s next destination appears set to be away from both VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich. Reports suggest that two major European clubs are now actively pursuing the German goalkeeper’s signature.
According to Sport Bild, Juventus and Manchester City have made initial contact with Bayern Munich regarding Nübel and are already in communication with the 29-year-old’s representatives.
The report claims that Bayern have placed a price tag of between €10 million and €15 million on Nübel. This valuation reportedly discouraged VfB Stuttgart from signing him permanently after his three-year loan spell. Nevertheless, Sport Bild notes that head coach Sebastian Hoeneß was eager to retain Nübel and had clearly expressed this wish to the club’s sporting management.
Ultimately, the goalkeeper’s salary became the deciding factor. Nübel played his 129th and final game for Stuttgart in the DFB Cup final against his parent club. He was reportedly unwilling to accept a significant pay cut, while Bayern covered the majority of his rumoured €11 million annual salary—around €7 million—during his loan period.
With Nübel’s departure, Stuttgart will now promote Dennis Seimen to the number one position. The promising young keeper is expected to guide the team through the demanding 2026/27 season, which will include their Champions League return. Seimen impressed on loan at SC Paderborn last season, playing a key role in the club’s third-ever promotion to the Bundesliga.
Having come through the Karlsruher SC youth ranks, Seimen advanced through every age group from U17 upwards before returning to Stuttgart as their first-choice goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Nübel reportedly learned some time ago during a private meeting with Bayern goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner that he no longer featured in the club’s long-term plans.
There are also rumours of a potential swap deal between Bayern Munich and Newcastle United involving Nübel and winger Anthony Gordon.
Nübel has been advised to find a new club, though he has yet to meet directly with sporting director Max Eberl or technical director Christoph Freund.
As reported by ran.de, Nübel will not be part of either Stuttgart or Bayern’s squads next season, with three unnamed top clubs vying for his services. Bayern are believed to be targeting Premier League interest, hoping for an offer that would meet their valuation while allowing Nübel to maintain his current salary.
This would also represent a profitable move for Bayern, who signed Nübel on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2020. According to Bild, the goalkeeper could even be used as part of a deal to bring Anthony Gordon to Munich.
Newcastle United are said to be in the market for a new goalkeeper. Sky reports that they have approached RC Lens about Robin Risser, though the French club are demanding between €30 million and €40 million. Nübel could therefore serve as a bargaining piece to reduce Gordon’s transfer fee.
The Magpies reportedly value Gordon at up to €80 million. The English forward has long been linked with a move to Bayern, where he could strengthen the squad both as backup for Harry Kane and as competition for Luis Diaz on the left wing. However, Mundo Deportivo reports that FC Barcelona have now moved ahead in the race for the England international.
At Newcastle, Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope rotated for the starting goalkeeper position last season, with Ramsdale making 23 appearances and Pope 36. As neither could fully cement the role, Nübel would likely have a genuine opportunity for regular playing time if he joined the club.
By contrast, a move to Manchester City may not be ideal for Nübel. Gianluigi Donnarumma currently holds the number one spot firmly, and the club invested €31 million last summer in James Trafford as his deputy. While Trafford could soon depart, opening a backup role, it remains unclear whether Nübel would be willing to accept a secondary position again—similar to his time behind Manuel Neuer at Bayern.
Juventus, however, might represent a more realistic and appealing destination. The Italian side’s goalkeeping situation remains unsettled: Michele Di Gregorio began last season as the first choice but was eventually replaced multiple times by Mattia Perin after inconsistent performances.
As reported by Football Italia, Juventus have already put a €15 million valuation on Di Gregorio, suggesting the club’s search for stability between the posts continues.
