Bhubaneswar: In a historic achievement, Odisha has been awarded the hosting rights for the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2027, it was officially announced on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at the Asian Athletics Council in Hongkong on Wednesday. With the approval, Bhubaneswar is set to host the prestigious international event, further strengthening its position on the global athletics stage.
Apart from Odisha, Chandigarh is set to host the Asian Relays 2028.
Receiving the news of Odisha being awarded this prestigious continental event, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has congratulated Indian Athletics.
Expressing his happiness, the CM has said that it’s a very proud moment for India and Odisha.
With this award, Odisha has strengthened its position as a host for global sporting events, he added. It’s another cap in Odisha’s crown in the realm of global sports, CM said.
It may be mentioned here Odisha has already been awarded World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028, which will be hosted at world-class Kalinga Stadium.
