Arrowhead Stadium has been chosen as one of the Central Region venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will stage six matches during the tournament, including the opening fixture for the defending champions, Argentina.

Home to the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, the stadium is one of 16 venues set to host World Cup 2026 games across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Both the U.S. men’s and women’s national football teams have played here multiple times since the U.S. Women’s National Team’s first appearance at the venue in 1999.

FourFourTwo provides a comprehensive look at this iconic stadium — from its capacity and history to its role in the upcoming World Cup 2026.

The stadium can be reached via the Route 47 metro bus operated by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA).

The city will also operate the ConnectKC26 Stadium Direct shuttle service, linking the FIFA Fan Festival site and four park-and-ride locations: Oak Mall Park, North Kansas City, Independence Center, and Graceway. This service will be available exclusively for ticket holders and will run only on matchdays in Kansas City.

Parking availability is very limited, and walking to the venue is not advised.

Situated in Kansas City, Missouri, Arrowhead Stadium boasts a rich legacy of hosting major sporting events and moments of sporting excellence. It has welcomed both the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams on six occasions and previously served as the home ground for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer, now known as Sporting Kansas City.

Located close to the Kansas state border, this expansive stadium is the long-time home of the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL team that has clinched three Super Bowl titles since 2019. The Chiefs have been based at Arrowhead since 1972, benefiting from significant expansions during the 1990s. After missing out on selection for the 1994 World Cup in the U.S., the venue is now set to host six matches during the 2026 World Cup.

Originally built between the late 1960s and early 1970s, Arrowhead Stadium officially opened in 1972. The Chiefs have played there ever since. It also served as the inaugural home of the Kansas City Wiz (later renamed Wizards) in Major League Soccer from 1996 to 2007. With a new soccer-specific venue now established in the city, Arrowhead has evolved primarily for NFL use.

The home of the Chiefs will host six World Cup matches, including one Round of 32 fixture and one of the four quarter-final games.

Arrowhead Stadium stands just east of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, the largest city in the Midwestern state.

For the 2026 World Cup, Arrowhead Stadium will feature a seating capacity of 73,000, making it the fifth-largest among the 16 host venues.

It remains the permanent home of the successful Kansas City Chiefs NFL franchise.

In addition to being a former home of the Kansas City Wizards, a sold-out Arrowhead Stadium also hosted Sporting Kansas City’s home fixture against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in April 2024.

Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled to host six matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including two knockout-stage encounters.
