EPFO: The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is bringing significant relief to salaried individuals. You will no longer have to endure long waits or navigate complex procedures to withdraw your PF funds. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently clarified that, under 'EPFO 3.0', employees will soon be able to directly transfer their PF amounts into their UPI-linked bank accounts. Testing for this new technology has already been completed.
The EPFO has already introduced an auto-settlement facility for claims up to ₹5 lakh, which has significantly accelerated the pace of withdrawals. However, to avail of this excellent feature, your EPFO records must be absolutely accurate. If there are any discrepancies in your account, your funds could get stuck despite the availability of this new facility. Let's understand the essential tasks you should complete before this new system goes live.
**UAN Activation: The Foremost Prerequisite**
The first step toward availing of any digital facility related to your PF is your Universal Account Number (UAN). If your UAN is not yet active, you won't even be able to complete basic KYC procedures—let alone initiate a withdrawal via UPI. Therefore, ensure that your UAN is fully active. If you have forgotten your old password or have changed your registered mobile number, update it without delay. At the critical moment, such a minor oversight could turn into a major roadblock.
**Ensure No Discrepancies in KYC Details**
PF claims most frequently get stuck in cases where there are discrepancies regarding the employee's name, date of birth, or gender. Bear in mind that the details in your EPFO records must match *exactly* with the information on your Aadhaar card. Additionally, your PAN must be linked to and verified against your UAN. If your PAN is not verified, a hefty TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) may be deducted from any withdrawals that fall under the taxable bracket. Furthermore, this could lead to complications during the digital verification process.
**Ensure Accuracy of Bank Account and Mobile Number Details**
Since funds will now be transferred directly via UPI, your bank account details must be absolutely accurate. The account number, IFSC code, and account holder's name registered on the portal must be correct. Payments will be stalled if the bank account is inactive or if there are errors in the spelling of the account holder's name. Also, ensure that your UPI ID is active and functional. UPI transactions require identity verification via an OTP (One-Time Password). Therefore, the *same* active mobile number must be registered across all three platforms: your Aadhaar, your UAN, and your UPI account. This significantly accelerates the verification process.
**Don't Forget to Keep Your Employment Records Updated**
Be sure to verify the complete record of your previous jobs within your EPF account. Often, the date of exit from a former employer is not updated, or previous PF accounts are not linked to the current one. Such situations lead to unnecessary delays in the settlement of claims. Furthermore, ensure that your e-Nomination is complete and up-to-date. If there is a new addition to the family, a change in dependents, or if you wish to change your nominee following a marriage, update these details immediately to prevent complications in the claim settlement process during an emergency.
