Business Desk – Crude Oil Prices Rise: Today once again there has been a rise in the prices of crude oil. In recent trading sessions, crude oil prices were moving downwards due to hopes of a peace deal between the US and Iran. Both WTI crude and Brent crude had fallen below the level of $90 per barrel. However, as of Thursday, May 28, 2026, both the benchmarks have gained more than 2% so far.
As of 6:17am IST today, WTI crude oil was up 2.07% at $90.530 per barrel, while Brent crude was up 2.22% at $96.385 per barrel. Now let us see if there is any change in the prices of petrol and diesel in India today.
Due to increase in crude oil prices
Today, the main reason for the initial rise in global crude oil prices is the increasing uncertainty regarding a possible peace agreement between America and Iran. Tehran is adamant on its demands, in particular it wants to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz and wants guarantees regarding its nuclear program.
America has consistently rejected both these demands. Washington has already said that imposing any kind of duty on shipping traffic through major waterways is unacceptable. US President Donald Trump has reiterated that he will not accept any deal that would be considered a “bad deal”.
impact on india
Tension in West Asia seems to be increasing once again, which may have a negative impact on the Indian economy. The rising prices of crude oil have already put a huge financial burden on the state oil companies and the Government of India. India’s foreign exchange reserves are decreasing. In this context, a fresh surge in tensions and the resulting rise in crude oil prices again could further increase the economic pressure on India.
Petrol and diesel prices in India
Since the beginning of this geopolitical tension, many countries have increased the prices of petrol and diesel manifold. However, the overall increase in India is still relatively low. This is despite the fact that petrol and diesel prices have been increased four times since May 15, 2026. There is no change in prices today.
