Manchester United are reportedly pursuing a second Brazilian signing this week, following their progress in securing Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The Red Devils are said to be in advanced negotiations to bring Ederson to Old Trafford, with the Brazilian midfielder having agreed personal terms with the Premier League club. United are now finalising the deal with Serie A side Atalanta.

Providing an update on the situation, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano stated on his YouTube channel: “Yes, they are getting really, really close now. The first signing could be Ederson from Atalanta.”

He added, “This is a story we’ve been tracking for weeks. Manchester United sent a delegation to Italy to hold discussions on multiple matters.”

Romano continued, “Don’t forget, the agents of Tonali are also in Italy, and United have been exploring several possibilities, including potential summer exits.”

“United held multiple meetings. They are always very active in the Italian market — remember Hojlund, Zirkzee, Dorgu, and several other players.”

“In this case, regarding Ederson, the agreement between Manchester United and the player is done. He has said yes to United, with a five-year contract prepared. Ederson wants to move to Old Trafford.”

Romano further revealed, “As I mentioned last week, another club — not Atletico Madrid — made contact recently, but Ederson told them, ‘I’m waiting for Manchester United.’”

“United are now close to agreeing a €45 million deal with Atalanta. The payment structure, including instalments, is still being discussed, but Ederson is very, very close to becoming a Manchester United player.”

“What’s left is the final approval from United’s hierarchy,” Romano said. “The club has been working on this transfer for weeks. Among multiple midfield targets, they now have to decide to move forward and finalise the signing.”

“They’ve reached a verbal agreement; now it’s about putting the finishing touches to complete the deal,” he concluded. “But yes, Ederson is very close.”

Meanwhile, Brazilian outlet UOL reports that Manchester United are also showing strong interest in another Brazilian talent — Botafogo midfielder Danilo.

According to the report, Manchester United have already made an offer for Danilo, with Botafogo receiving bids from United, AC Milan, Atalanta, and Zenit St Petersburg.

The publication adds: “The internal belief within the club is that the midfielder’s participation in the World Cup could boost his market value and increase competition for his signature, particularly with the expected international exposure.”
