  • E-SIM does not require a physical SIM card, making setup smarter and more convenient.
  • A physical SIM is still considered a simple and easy-to-change option for most Android users.
  • In terms of security, network switching and future technology, the popularity of e-SIM is increasing rapidly.

Until the last few years, after buying a smartphone, there was no need to think about physical SIM. Because companies used to launch their smartphones only with physical SIM support. eSIM Vs SIM: Difference between the two

The first and biggest difference between an e-SIM and a physical SIM is that a physical SIM requires a pre-programmed physical card to be inserted into the phone. A special slot is also provided in the phone for this purpose. But talking about e-SIM, it does not require any slot to use it. It involves downloading network credentials to an embedded SIM card (e-SIM). Once downloaded, this SIM always stays in the phone.

Another difference between e-SIM and physical SIM is that if you want to change the network, you also have to change the physical SIM card. But if you want to change the network of e-SIM then this problem does not arise. New credentials can be downloaded only by removing the old details.

Advantages of using e-SIM

E-SIM is considered more secure. Often the physical SIM card can get damaged during installation. Besides, the physical SIM card is also prone to breakage or theft. Physical SIM cards also have risks like duplicate SIMs and swapping etc. But there are no such problems when using e-SIM. E-SIM cannot be removed or stolen from the phone. Likewise, this SIM remains linked to the phone’s IMEI number, further strengthening security.

From the point of view of security, many people give more importance to e-SIM. E-SIM is the first choice of people who like to travel but need to change SIM frequently while traveling. Unlike a physical SIM, there is no need to first purchase an e-SIM, then install and verify it. You can download the SIM at home and use it. But there are still many smartphones available in the market, which do not support e-SIM. Gradually companies are launching new smartphones preferring e-SIM, but there are still many devices that only support physical SIM.
