Filip Jorgensen has reportedly requested to leave Chelsea just two years into his seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, as per a report from Fabrizio Romano.
The Danish goalkeeper is said to be determined to secure consistent first-team action, having grown increasingly dissatisfied with his limited role in West London after a challenging season.
Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2024 for a fee believed to be around €24.5 million, with the goal of competing for the starting goalkeeper position.
However, he has been unable to dislodge Chelsea’s first-choice shot-stopper Robert Sanchez, who retained his position as the club’s No. 1 throughout the 2025/26 season, barring a brief dip in form mid-season.
Although Jorgensen was handed occasional chances in domestic cup competitions, he failed to convince sufficiently to overtake his Spanish teammate, spending most of the Premier League campaign on the bench.
Now 24, Jorgensen’s outlook for the 2026/27 season appears uncertain. Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new head coach after a turbulent campaign. Adding to the uncertainty, the Blues will have a lighter schedule next season having missed out on qualification for all European tournaments.
Without continental competitions to offer rotation opportunities, Alonso is expected to depend on a stable starting lineup, leaving backup players like Jorgensen with fewer chances to feature.
Making matters worse for the Dane, promising Belgian youngster Mike Penders is set to join the squad soon, which could push Jorgensen further down the goalkeeping hierarchy.
Considering the situation, both the club and the player may view a transfer as the most practical resolution. Reports suggest Jorgensen has initiated discussions aimed at securing a move away from Stamford Bridge.
During the 2025/26 season, Jorgensen managed just one clean sheet in 12 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, conceding 17 goals in total. Only five of those outings came in the Premier League.
Having already explored potential exits during the previous winter transfer window, the goalkeeper is now actively pursuing a permanent move in hopes of revitalising a career that has struggled to take off in England.
