Monza Complete the Trio of Clubs Returning to Serie A

Three well-known sides are set to make their return to Serie A after brief spells in the second division, as Venezia, Frosinone, and Monza — all considered strong contenders — secured promotion.

The Lagunari and the Ciociari were locked in a season-long duel for the top spot, managing to avoid the playoffs. Venezia edged out their rivals by just a single point. Under the guidance of Giovanni Stroppa, a coach known for his experience in such campaigns, they earned an immediate promotion back to the top tier just one season after being relegated in 2024/2025. The same rapid return applies to the Brianzoli.

While Venezia and Monza were widely seen as favourites from the start, Frosinone established themselves among that group during the season through their vibrant playing style and steady performances. After struggling to avoid consecutive relegations, they impressed under Massimiliano Alvini, who led them to exceed expectations. This marks Alvini’s second stint managing in Serie A after a difficult spell with Cremonese in 2023 that lasted only 18 matches.

The Biancorossi missed out on an automatic promotion spot but succeeded in the playoffs, narrowly overcoming Juve Stabia and Catanzaro, with the final being particularly hard-fought. The club is no longer under the ownership of the Berlusconi family, who sold it to the American investment group Beckett Layne Ventures last July. Currently, the team is managed by Paolo Bianco, who previously served as assistant to Roberto De Zerbi in Ukraine and to Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus before stepping into a head coaching role.

Venezia, Frosinone, and Monza will take the places of Cremonese and Pisa — both lasting only one season in Serie A — and Hellas Verona, whose seven-year stay in the league has come to an end. The Arancioneroverdi have already begun preparations for the top flight, signing former Lazio midfielder Toma Basic on a free transfer as their first move in the summer market.
