The case regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak has reached the Supreme Court. A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Friday regarding a petition filed by the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and the United Doctors Front (UDF). During the proceedings, the National Testing Agency (NTA) filed an affidavit addressing various issues, including measures to prevent paper leaks in NEET and the upcoming NEET re-examination. In this affidavit, the NTA clarified that the decision on whether or not to conduct NEET UG 2027 in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode will be taken only after the NEET re-examination has concluded.

Let us examine what the NTA stated in the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court regarding NEET. We will also look at the government's previous stance on this matter. Let us attempt to understand the entire issue in detail.

**Announcement Already Made to Conduct NEET UG 2027 in CBT Mode**
The NEET UG 2026 examination, held on May 3, was conducted in the traditional Pen-and-Paper Test (PPT) mode; however, the exam was subsequently cancelled following the emergence of the paper leak scandal. Subsequently, the date for the NEET re-examination was announced. At that time, both the government and the NTA had explicitly stated that NEET UG 2027 would be conducted in CBT mode.

**What Did the NTA Say on This Matter in the Supreme Court?**
During the hearing of the NEET UG paper leak case, the NTA filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court. In this affidavit, the NTA stated that the High-Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) would convene a meeting once again following the NEET re-examination. During this meeting—and in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare—a decision will be taken regarding whether future NEET examinations should be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode or if they should continue to be held in Pen-and-Paper Test (PPT) mode.

**What Else Does the Affidavit Contain?** In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the NTA stated that a meeting of the High-Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) was held on April 17, 2026, before the NEET UG 2026 examination, which concluded on May 3. During this meeting, alongside a review of the examination preparations, several security measures to be implemented both before and after the exam were recommended; specifically, the Committee advised making the mandatory verification of CCTV systems at all examination centers a requirement, along with the preservation of the footage for a minimum period of 90 days. Furthermore, the Committee also recommended that a forensic analysis of the CCTV footage be conducted following the conclusion of the examination.
