The excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has already begun to spread across Pekanbaru City. Football fans are eagerly hunting for jerseys to celebrate the upcoming global tournament.
This year’s World Cup is particularly historic, as it will be co-hosted by three nations — Canada, Mexico, and the United States — marking a unique collaboration in the tournament’s history.
Interestingly, local football lovers are not only searching for the latest national team jerseys that will feature in the World Cup, but also seeking out classic retro jerseys from previous eras.
Some of the most sought-after retro kits include those from the Netherlands, Argentina, and Japan national teams. These jerseys have become collector’s favourites due to their nostalgic designs and iconic colours.
“So it’s not just about getting the newest jerseys, some are also looking for the old ones from previous years,” said Pandu, the manager of J Store Pekanbaru, on Saturday (30 May 2026).
The jersey store manager located around Hang Tuah Street, Pekanbaru, acknowledged that sales have been on the rise. He expressed his gratitude that many football fans are actively purchasing jerseys as the World Cup draws near.
“Thank God, business is going well, and it’s been quite crowded with buyers,” he added.
According to him, football fans are currently not only chasing national team jerseys for the World Cup, but also jerseys of clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League Final.
The grand final is set to take place at Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, featuring two European football powerhouses. The match brings together Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), champions of France’s Ligue 1, and Arsenal, winners of the English Premier League, in a clash to determine Europe’s best club.
“Since last week, ahead of the UCL final, many have been buying both Arsenal and PSG jerseys,” he explained.
