New Delhi: If you have LPG cylinder in your house or you use PNG i.e. piped gas, then this news is very important for you. The government and oil companies are preparing to implement a completely new system for gas consumers in the country. The purpose of this new step is to make the supply of gas better than before, to prevent misuse of gas and to provide the facilities to the general public in the right manner. There are going to be some very important changes to gas connections from June 1, about which everyone should know.

Number of LPG consumers in the country crosses 33 crores, new plan of the government

In the last few years, there has been a record breaking increase in the number of people taking LPG gas connections within the country. Talking about the current figures, at present there are about 33.5 crore LPG consumers in the country, while the number of customers using piped gas i.e. PNG is about 1.64 crore. Now the government’s plan is that in cities or areas where piped gas facility has reached, people should use PNG as much as possible. This will reduce the increasing pressure on LPG cylinders to a great extent.

Attachment to cylinder even after taking PNG connection? Now the government will keep a close watch

A shocking thing has come to light in some recent reports. By March 2026, about 6.5 lakh new PNG connections were issued in the country, but despite this, the actual consumption of piped gas was not as much as was expected. This clearly indicates that many families have got new PNG connections installed in their homes, but they are still using the old LPG cylinders indiscriminately. Keeping this in view, oil companies have now tightened their monitoring on the use of both types of connections.

One family and one gas connection! Data matching work started

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) are now working on a special strategy to stop black marketing of domestic gas, illegal hoarding and unfair benefits of subsidy. Companies are now closely matching the data of consumers who have both PNG and LPG connections at the same address. The government’s effort is to emphasize on the system of ‘one family-one gas connection’. In such a situation, the consumers in the areas where PNG network has been completely laid may now have to follow the strict rules of the companies at all costs.

Now you will have to wait a long time to book the cylinder again, the gap may increase.

In order to maintain the availability of gas cylinders in the market, there is a discussion going on about major changes in the refill booking time limit. According to the new proposal, after booking a cylinder once in urban areas, the gap between second booking can be increased from 21 days to 25 days. Whereas in rural and remote areas this period can be increased to 45 days. The main objective of implementing this rule is to stop commercial use of domestic cylinders, so that gas can reach the real needy families on time.

Quota fixed for subsidized cylinders, full amount will have to be paid for new connection

According to government rules, only 12 subsidized LPG cylinders will be given to domestic gas consumers in a year. If a family buys more than 12 cylinders, it will have to pay the full price for the remaining cylinders as per the market rate. Along with this, those who are thinking of getting a new gas connection, they will have to pay security deposit, regulator, pipe and installation charges as per all the prescribed rules.
