If you have a LPG cylinder (LPG) along with a piped gas (PNG) connection in the kitchen of your house, then the entire mathematics of your kitchen is going to change from June 1. Extensive amendments are being made by the Central Government and oil companies in the rules ranging from gas subsidy, refilling method to getting a new connection.
The biggest change this time is that now only one type of gas connection will be considered valid at one address. This means that the people in the houses where PNG line has been started will not be able to book LPG cylinder even if they want to. Apart from this, the time limit between filling of two cylinders has also been changed. The direct focus of the government is to completely stop black marketing of gas in the country.
If there is PNG line in the house, now LPG connection will be cut
The country’s government oil marketing companies (OMCs) have completely linked their digital databases with each other. Because of this hi-tech system, it has now become very easy to track which families are using PNG as well as LPG cylinders at the same address. Under the new rules, now all such customers will have to surrender their LPG connections. The system has been updated in such a way that if an active PNG connection is found in a house, the cylinder refill booking there will be automatically blocked. If you ignore these new rules, the gas company can suspend or cancel your LPG connection forever.
Customers leaving the connection will get a special and big facility
After hearing about surrendering their working cylinder, many customers start worrying about the future, what will happen if there is a fault in the PNG line. The government has found a very practical and easy solution to this problem. Any customer who gets his old LPG connection closed after adopting PNG will be given a ‘transfer voucher’ from the gas agencies. The biggest advantage of this voucher will be that if you shift to a new area or city in future due to change of job or any other reason where PNG facility is not available, then through this voucher you will be able to get your LPG connection restarted without any hassle.
New deadline for refill booking, now you will have to wait a long time
A new rule has also been implemented on the arbitrary system of booking gas cylinders continuously. Now it will be mandatory for every consumer to keep a fixed gap between booking of two cylinders. According to the new rule, customers in urban areas will have to wait for at least 25 days to book a new cylinder. At the same time, for customers of rural areas, this time limit has been fixed at 45 days. However, the good thing for the general public is that there has been no reduction in the quota of 12 subsidized cylinders available annually. Along with this, changes have also been made in the rates for taking a new connection, from security deposit, regulator charges to installation fees.
Government’s new masterplan to stop black marketing and fraud
There is a very clear strategy working behind all these strict steps taken by the government. In fact, complaints were being received continuously from many parts of the country that subsidized domestic cylinders were being used indiscriminately in commercial places. Empty cylinders kept in houses where there is PNG line were becoming a major source of black marketing of gas. Now this new digital integration will bring transparency in the entire system. Apart from this, the deadline of the ‘National PNG Drive 2.0’ campaign being run across the country to make people aware about piped gas has also been extended to June 30.
