Tehran, May 31. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement on Sunday that it had shot down a US MQ-1 drone. This information was given by Islamic Republic News Agency. According to the report, this drone had allegedly entered Iran’s territorial waters. The IRGC said the drone was immediately detected and shot down by air defense missiles. Earlier on Tuesday, the IRGC had said that if the US violates the ceasefire, it reserves the ‘legitimate and definite’ right to retaliate.
The IRGC had claimed that its air defense units had also shot down a US MQ-9 drone. According to local media reports, the IRGC also said it fired on a fighter plane that had reportedly entered Iranian airspace. This development has come to light at a time when America has said that it has carried out new ‘self-defense attacks’ on Iran. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), US forces on Monday struck missile launch sites in southern Iran and targeted boats trying to lay mines.
CENTCOM spokesman Tim Hawkins said in a statement that US forces acted in self-defense in southern Iran to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. “The targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats that were attempting to lay mines in the sea. US Central Command continues to protect its troops while exercising restraint during the ceasefire,” he said. On Thursday also, the US Army carried out new attacks in Iran during the night.
