America-Pakistan has come closer under the rule of Donald Trump. Last Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir visited Washington. He also had a long meeting with the US President there. This time US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is five-faced in praise of Islamabad and Munir. “Pakistan is a real friend,” he said.
Hegseth attended an event in Singapore on Saturday. Speaking there, he said, “Trump has developed a genuine friendship with the Pak leadership and also credited Islamabad for playing a constructive role in efforts to maintain stability in South Asia.” He further said, “Munir and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif are doing a good job. They are also playing a significant role in the peace deal with Iran.” “The relationship between the two countries is improving,” Hegseth said, calling the warm Washington-Islamist relationship “an unexpected phenomenon.” He also mentioned Trump’s role in brokering peace between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan.
Asked about India-Pakistan’s missile capabilities, Hegseth said, “America does not see the two countries as a threat. Both India and Pakistan have security concerns. So they will continue to build strategic deterrence capabilities.” On the other hand, New Delhi was also filled with praise by the US Defense Secretary. Reiterating the India-Washington strategic partnership, he described New Delhi as “an important anchor” in South Asia. Besides, he also praised India’s military strength.
