The Canada national football team has officially announced its 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As one of the co-hosts alongside the United States and Mexico, Les Rouges arrive with great ambition to create history in front of their home fans.

Head coach Jesse Marsch has made significant changes to the composition of his team.

From the squad that competed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar under John Herdman, only 13 players have been retained for this edition.

This move reflects Marsch’s commitment to building a new generation of Canadian football by blending seasoned players with fresh faces ready to make their World Cup debut.

According to Bolasport.com, Jesse Marsch announced Canada’s official 2026 World Cup squad on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Thirteen players from the Qatar 2022 campaign were once again given the nod. They include Dayne St. Clair, Derek Cornelius, Joel Waterman, Alphonso Davies, Alistair Johnston, Richie Laryea, Stephen Eustaquio, Ismael Kone, Jonathan Osorio, Tajon Buchanan, Liam Millar, Jonathan David, and Cyle Larin.

The remaining 13 players will experience the World Cup stage for the first time in their careers.

This overhaul is part of Marsch’s long-term project since taking charge of the Canadian national team.

At the 2022 World Cup, Canada failed to earn any points after losses to Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco, finishing bottom of Group F.

This time, Canada’s prospects are seen as much brighter.

Hosts with Big Ambitions

The 2026 World Cup is a special occasion for Canada as they host the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico.

Canada automatically qualified for the finals without going through the qualifying rounds.

This edition will also be the largest in history, featuring 48 participating nations.

Home support is expected to be a major boost for Les Rouges in their quest for the best-ever World Cup performance.

Previously, Canada only appeared in the 1986 and 2022 editions, exiting in the group stage both times without securing a single victory.

Despite the ongoing regeneration process, Canada will continue to rely on several players with European top-flight experience.

Team captain Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich stands as the central figure in Marsch’s side.

Davies’ pace and experience at the highest level will be crucial in guiding his teammates throughout the tournament.

Alongside him, Canada will depend on the sharpness of Jonathan David, who now plays for Juventus. The 26-year-old striker is expected to lead the line for Les Rouges.

First-Ever Knockout Stage Ambition

Canada have been drawn into Group B with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and Switzerland.

The group is considered competitive but not as daunting as some other pools containing global powerhouses.

Additionally, the new World Cup format allowing several third-placed teams to advance to the knockout rounds increases Canada’s chances.

The primary goal for Les Rouges is not only to claim their first-ever World Cup win but also to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in history.
