Eberechi Eze was substituted for Kai Havertz after 69 minutes in Arsenal’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
Arsenal are facing anxious moments over the fitness of Eberechi Eze ahead of the weekend.
The Gunners are set to meet Manchester City in the 2026 Carabao Cup final this weekend, following their midweek victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
However, Eze’s early withdrawal after 69 minutes against the German side at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming final.
Eze was replaced by Havertz during the 2-0 victory over Leverkusen, after he had opened the scoring for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The former Crystal Palace star appeared to be holding his ankle just before being taken off, but he was quick to ease concerns about his condition when speaking to TNT Sports after the match.
“Yeah, I’m alright. I’ll be okay,” Eze assured when asked about his fitness following the Leverkusen game.
Reflecting on his goal, he added, “I don’t know if I could dream of scoring a goal like that, to be fair. It was a good goal — I just saw an opportunity to shoot, and I’m thankful to God that it worked out today.”
He continued, “It was definitely a special goal — one I’ll remember for a long time. Hopefully, it’s the first of many in the Champions League for me. I’ll be watching that one back a few times.”
Speaking about the match, Eze said, “They’re a tough side to play against, and we saw that when we faced them away. We knew it would take moments like this to swing the game our way. As a team, we managed to do that tonight.”
According to FourFourTwo, Eze appears to be fit and likely available for selection when Arsenal take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side this weekend.
Whether Mikel Arteta decides to start him remains to be seen, as the Arsenal boss plots a way to overcome his former mentor at Wembley on Sunday.
