The Central Government had initially scheduled the Bakrid holiday for May 27, but the date was subsequently revised. According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Personnel, a public holiday has now been declared for Central Government administrative offices and banks located in Delhi/New Delhi on May 28, 2026, instead of May 27. This is the reason why banks in most parts of the country are closed today.

**Where Are Banks Open and Where Are They Closed?**
The dates for Bakrid depend on the sighting of the moon and notifications issued by local governments. Banks will remain closed today in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and in most other states and Union Territories across the country. In regions such as Jammu and Srinagar, banks had already observed the holiday on May 27—based on regional calendars and moon sighting—and therefore, banking operations are expected to proceed as usual in those areas today.

Even if banks are closed in your city today, there is no need for you to worry. Online banking services across the country will remain fully operational. You can still transfer money to anyone online today. Additionally, ATMs and mobile banking applications will continue to function as usual.
