The Algeria national football team has officially announced its squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The announcement was made through the team’s official Instagram account on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
Veteran winger Riyad Mahrez remains the central figure in the Algeria squad, while attention also turns to Luca Zidane, the son of French legend Zinedine Zidane, who has been included in the final list of players.
Head coach Vladimir Petkovic has opted for a mix of experienced players and young talents in preparation for the fierce competition in Group J.
Algeria is scheduled to face defending champions Argentina, followed by matches against Jordan and Austria in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
Riyad Mahrez continues to be a key figure for Les Fennecs. The team captain brings a wealth of experience from his time with Leicester City FC and Manchester City FC, and he currently plays for Al-Ahli Saudi FC.
Mahrez has also hinted that the 2026 World Cup could be his final appearance for the national team.
In the goalkeeping department, Luca Zidane stands out as one of the most talked-about inclusions. The son of football icon Zinedine Zidane has chosen to represent Algeria and has earned a spot in the main squad for the upcoming tournament.
The Granada CF goalkeeper previously represented France at youth level before deciding to play for his family’s country of origin.
Alongside Mahrez and Luca Zidane, Algeria’s squad also features several established names such as Houssem Aouar, Amine Gouiri, and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The team’s combination of creative midfield play and pace on the wings is expected to make Algeria one of the potential dark horses of this year’s tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will also mark an important chapter for Algeria as they aim to reassert themselves on the global stage, having last appeared in the tournament in 2014. That year, Les Fennecs impressed the world by reaching the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Germany.
Now, a new generation of Algerian players is determined to bring their nation back to prominence at the highest level of world football.
