JEE Advanced Result 2026: The results for JEE Advanced 2026, conducted by IIT Roorkee, have been released—an event awaited by hundreds of thousands of aspirants. Students can check their results by visiting the official JEE Advanced 2026 website. A candidate's JEE Advanced score will determine which of India's premier engineering colleges they will be able to secure admission into. Presented here is a glimpse of India's top 20 engineering colleges, as ranked in the 'National Institutional Ranking Framework' (NIRF) 2025, released by the Ministry of Education on September 4, 2025.

IIT Madras: No. 1 for 10 Consecutive Years

IIT Madras has maintained its position as the country's number one engineering college for ten consecutive years. IIT Madras has retained its top spot in the engineering category with a score of 88.72. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay hold the second and third positions, respectively.

The rankings for the country's top 5 engineering colleges remain unchanged. IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur continue to hold the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, while IIT Roorkee ranks sixth.

IIT Hyderabad's Leap

IIT Hyderabad has brought about a significant shift in the NIRF rankings. The institute climbed from the eighth to the seventh position, while IIT Guwahati's rank slipped to eighth. In 2024, IIT Guwahati was ranked ninth. No changes were observed in the ninth and tenth positions in the 2025 rankings; IIT Tiruchirappalli and IIT BHU (Varanasi) retained their respective spots.

BITS Pilani: Top Private College

According to the NIRF 2025 rankings, BITS Pilani is the country's top private engineering college, having secured the 11th rank. Meanwhile, NIT Tiruchirappalli ranked ninth, and NIT Rourkela stood at the 13th position. This demonstrates that excellent engineering colleges exist beyond the IIT system as well. Among private institutions, SRM Institute of Science and Technology secured the 14th rank, while Vellore Institute of Technology stood at the 16th position.

NIT Tiruchirappalli: The Sole NIT in the Top 10
These rankings underscore the continued dominance of the IITs in technical education, with NIT Trichy being the only non-IIT institution to secure a spot on this exclusive list. Launched in 2015, the NIRF evaluates higher education institutions based on various categories—such as Engineering, Management, Medicine, Law, and Universities—as well as their overall performance.
