After bilateral talks, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that his meeting and conversation with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles in New Delhi was excellent. The two countries reviewed the entire scope of bilateral defense cooperation. Along with this, India and Australia discussed ways to take this dialogue and cooperation further.
According to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the India-Australia defense partnership is set to continue progressing in the coming years. Before this conversation on Monday, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles was formally welcomed in New Delhi.
During the talks, Rajnath Singh praised the Australian Government’s recently released 2026 National Defense Strategy and Integrated Investment Programme. On this subject, the Defense Minister said that he would like to congratulate the Australian Government for its recently published 2026 National Defense Strategy and Integrated Investment Programme.
In the meeting, both the countries expressed satisfaction that the defense relations between India and Australia have strengthened unprecedentedly in the last few years. Both sides reiterated their commitment to deepen defense and military cooperation, expand joint military exercises, enhance maritime security cooperation, strengthen partnerships between defense industries and advance cooperation in the field of new defense technologies.
This dialogue assumes special importance in view of the increasing strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region and the security of sea routes. Both India and Australia are supporters of a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. The two countries also cooperate closely in multilateral fora such as the Quad and have a common vision to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.
Experts believe that this visit of Richard Marles is not just a formal bilateral meeting, but also a sign that India and Australia are preparing to take their strategic partnership to the next stage. Growing closeness in the defense sector, shared security interests and common vision of maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific are bringing the two countries closer than ever.
The talks held in New Delhi on Monday made it clear that India-Australia defense relations are moving towards becoming an important pillar of the regional security architecture in the coming years.
It is noteworthy that this meeting has taken place at a time when the Indo-Pacific region remains the center of global strategic discussions. At the same time, many new security dimensions are emerging, from maritime security to regional stability. In such a situation, India and Australia have taken important steps towards further strengthening their defense partnership.
