Manchester United had two of their players representing their national teams on Sunday, adding to the growing list of Red Devils preparing for the upcoming World Cup this summer. Both players were in action for Brazil.
Casemiro, who is expected to leave Old Trafford in the coming months with a move to Inter Miami reportedly nearing completion, continued his impressive form on international duty. Having enjoyed a standout season for United, the midfielder once again delivered a commanding display in Brazil’s 6-2 victory over Panama.
The former Real Madrid man opened the scoring for Brazil after heading in a shot from Vinicius Junior. In his 45 minutes on the pitch, Casemiro contributed one assist and made one key pass while maintaining an 86% pass completion rate. He also successfully completed all of his dribble attempts.
Defensively, Casemiro was equally effective, winning both his tackles and aerial duels, as well as coming out on top in three ground duels, underlining his all-around influence in midfield.
Meanwhile, Cunha experienced a more difficult outing in his 45 minutes of play. Despite being in strong form for United over the final months of the season, he endured a frustrating half against Panama. He was unfortunate to put the ball into his own net while attempting to block a free kick, as the deflection wrong-footed Alisson Becker.
Cunha failed to register a shot on target and was unsuccessful in all three of his dribble attempts. He did, however, make one key pass and completed 82% of his passes during his time on the field. On the defensive side, he managed one interception but only won one of his five ground duels.
Brazil will next take the field in a friendly match against Egypt on Saturday night as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.
