The Belgium national football team remains a serious contender in the 2026 World Cup.
Known as the Red Devils, the team still boasts several world-class players. The squad continues to rely on experienced stars such as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Real Madrid, playmaker Kevin De Bruyne (Napoli), and prolific striker Romelu Lukaku (Napoli).
According to Kepri football analyst Chris Triwinasis, coach Rudi Garcia remains confident that the blend of senior and young talents, including 23-year-old Koni Winter (Milan) and Amadou Onana (Aston Villa), will provide strength and stability in midfield.
Supporting the attack are Jeremy Doku (Manchester City) and Leandro Trossard, who has been outstanding with Arsenal. The combination of Doku, Trossard, and Lukaku makes Belgium’s attacking line one of the sharpest in the tournament.
“Being in Group G alongside Iran, Egypt, and New Zealand, Belgium deserves to be considered the favourite to win the group,” said Chris Triwinasis on Monday (1 June 2026).
The group’s top spot could be decided as early as the opening match on 16 June 2026, when Belgium face Egypt, led by their star player Mohamed Salah, the driving force for the African side.
The strength level within Group G appears uneven, with Belgium, ranked in the world’s top 10, clearly above Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand.
“Egypt is expected to accompany Belgium into the knockout stage, the round of 32,” he added.
Egypt’s well-prepared squad and superior player quality compared to Iran and New Zealand are the main reasons they are predicted to advance.
Meanwhile, the Iranian team faces logistical challenges as their officials have encountered difficulties entering the United States, forcing them to stay in Tijuana, Mexico.
However, all of Iran’s matches are scheduled to be played in the United States, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and Lumen Field in Seattle.
This situation could affect the players’ physical condition and mental focus due to the frequent travel required between Mexico and the U.S. venues.
As a result, Iran aims to secure a full three points against New Zealand and hopes for a draw against Egypt in their second match on 22 June 2026.
If Iran manages to qualify for the knockout stage, it would be a historic achievement for Team Melli, marking their first-ever progression beyond the group stage after seven World Cup appearances since their debut in 1978 in Argentina.
