A significant legal conflict has emerged in Bollywood as veteran producer TP Aggarwal has initiated a lawsuit against the authority of industry organizations to impose bans or directives of non-cooperation on film professionals. This legal action directly contests the recent measures taken by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) against actor Ranveer Singh following his departure from the film Don 3. Here’s a detailed overview of the situation.    

TP Aggarwal's Petition Against FWICE

  TP Aggarwal, known for producing films like Love In Nepal and Red Alert: The War Within, has lodged a petition with the Bombay Civil Court located in Dindoshi. The petition identifies both FWICE and the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) as parties involved. Notices have already been issued to both organizations.       Aggarwal, who has held the position of President at IMPPA for 17 years and has been elected President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) four times, currently serves as Patron for both FFI and IMPPA. In his legal filing, he contends that no individual or organization possesses the legal authority to instruct its members to cease collaboration with any person. He emphasized that such actions jeopardize livelihoods and artistic freedom, advocating for resolution through lawful and equitable means.    

FWICE's Non-Cooperation Directive Explained

  On May 25, 2026, FWICE issued a Non-Cooperation Directive, advising all union members and technicians to refrain from working with Ranveer Singh until the matter was resolved. FWICE clarified that this was not a formal ban but rather a directive encouraging voluntary non-cooperation among its 30 affiliated crafts.             BN Tiwari, the president of FWICE, defended this decision, asserting that the intention was to convey to the industry that no superstar is above the law, and the directive would remain in effect until Ranveer agreed to meet with them.    

The Controversy Surrounding Don 3

  Excel Entertainment announced the production of Don 3 in August 2023, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, and it was anticipated to be a significant reboot of the franchise. The film was scheduled to begin production in 2026, but the collaboration fell apart when Ranveer exited the project, citing creative differences.       Excel subsequently filed a formal complaint with the IFTDA on April 11, 2026, seeking Rs 45 crore, which they claimed had been invested in pre-production prior to Ranveer's departure. FWICE issued three notices to Ranveer, who failed to respond. Reports indicate that Ranveer's team had previously proposed a settlement of Rs 10 crore upfront along with a Rs 25 crore discount on a future project, which Excel rejected, expressing no interest in future collaborations.
