New Delhi: The ongoing diplomatic talks between Iran and America have once again come to a halt. Tehran has made it clear that there will be no talks with Washington until Israel stops military action in Lebanon and Gaza. Iran has also stopped exchanging messages through intermediaries for the time being.
Why did Tehran stop talks
According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue. Earlier the terms of the ceasefire included Lebanon, but now it is being violated on all fronts. For this reason, the Iranian negotiating team has suspended the talks being held through mediators.
The report also said that the Resistance Front and Iran have set an agenda to completely close the Strait of Hormuz. There are also preparations to activate other fronts including the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. These two are the most important maritime trade routes of the world.
Iran’s tough stance
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the ceasefire between Iran and the US should apply to the entire region. This also includes Lebanon. He wrote on X that a violation on one front would be considered a violation of the entire armistice. Araghchi warned that the US and Israel would be responsible for the consequences of any violation.
Israeli attacks intensify in Lebanon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered new attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs. This area is considered a stronghold of Hezbollah. Israel issued a warning to evacuate the Dahiyeh area, after which families started leaving there. More than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon since the conflict began.
Netanyahu said that it will not happen that Hezbollah attacks our cities and its headquarters remains safe. Israel has created a security zone along the border and stepped up ground operations in southern Lebanon. There have been limited attacks in Beirut since US President Donald Trump’s announcement on April 16, but fighting continues in southern Lebanon.
Situation critical in Gaza too
The ceasefire in Gaza also remains fragile. The ceasefire brokered by Trump in October has not stopped Israel’s military operations. Indirect talks are going on between Israel and Hamas. The main issues are the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. According to Gaza health officials, about 900 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks even after the ceasefire. In these figures, no distinction has been made between civilians and combatants.
