The Indonesian Football Association (FA) 7 team made history on the international stage by winning the silver medal at the IFA7 World Championship 2026 held in Honduras.
After defeating Brazil in the semifinals, Indonesia claimed the silver medal following a loss to host nation Honduras in the final of the IFA7 World Championship 2026.
This achievement marks Indonesia’s best-ever performance in the global seven-a-side football competition and serves as a special gift to the Indonesian people as the nation commemorates Pancasila Day on June 1, 2026.
The journey of the Garuda squad in this tournament was among the most captivating stories of this year’s IFA7 World Championship.
Indonesia emerged as one of the most surprising teams, impressing global audiences with their strong performances from the early rounds all the way to the final match.
Although they had to concede defeat to hosts Honduras with a score of 2-9 in the championship game, finishing as world runners-up remains an extraordinary milestone for the development of FA7 Indonesia.
The defeat in the final was influenced by several factors that affected the team’s performance.
Indonesia entered the decisive match under less-than-ideal conditions after enduring an intense and energy-draining semifinal against Brazil.
In addition to the physical toll, Indonesia also lost two players to injury, reducing squad depth when facing a fully fit Honduras team playing in front of their home crowd.
Meanwhile, Honduras arrived at the tournament with thorough preparation.
The host nation reportedly underwent nearly a year of dedicated training specifically for the IFA7 World Championship 2026.
Superior physical conditioning, strong player chemistry, and overwhelming home support were key factors that helped Honduras dominate the final.
Nevertheless, Indonesia’s effort throughout the tournament deserves immense appreciation.
Before advancing to the final, the Garuda squad pulled off a major upset by eliminating Brazil in the semifinal round.
That victory stands as one of the most historic moments in FA7 Indonesia’s journey.
Facing a country long regarded as a global football powerhouse, Indonesia displayed remarkable mental strength and secured a 2-1 win through a penalty shootout.
The result paved the way for Indonesia to make history as a first-time finalist in the IFA7 World Championship.
Throughout the tournament, Indonesian players showcased impressive playing characteristics marked by discipline, strong teamwork, and high fighting spirit.
These qualities have elevated Indonesia’s reputation in the global FA7 football landscape.
President of FA7 Indonesia, Raden Bambang Pramukantoro, expressed his gratitude for the historic achievement accomplished by the national team.
“The Indonesian National Team finishing as runners-up is already an extraordinary achievement at the IFA7 World Championship,” said Bambang Pramukantoro.
“By God’s grace, the Indonesian nation has been given the opportunity to perform at the World Cup,” he added.
Bambang Pramukantoro further explained that finishing second in the world holds special significance as it coincided with the celebration of Pancasila Day.
The IFA7 World Championship 2026 final between Indonesia and Honduras took place on June 1, 2026, the same day as Pancasila Day.
“We dedicate this achievement to the Indonesian nation as a gift for Pancasila Day, which falls today, June 1,” stated Bambang Pramukantoro.
He also noted that defeating Brazil was a source of pride for the entire FA7 Indonesia community and a testament to Indonesia’s potential to compete at the highest level.
“It’s a great source of pride. The Indonesian national team managed to beat the team from the land of Samba. Moving forward, we will train harder and with greater discipline to achieve even more remarkable results,” Bambang Pramukantoro added.
Beyond the international spotlight, Bambang Pramukantoro reaffirmed his commitment to expanding the development of FA7 football across all regions of Indonesia.
He believes that seven-a-side football has strong growth potential as it requires smaller fields than traditional football.
This, he said, opens greater opportunities for regions to establish competitions and nurture young talent.
“We will provide the widest possible opportunities for all young Indonesians from every corner of the Republic to showcase their best talents,” said Bambang Pramukantoro.
He also extended appreciation to all players, coaching staff, officials, FA7 Indonesia management, and the Indonesian public for their continuous support and prayers throughout the team’s campaign in Honduras.
Winning the silver medal at the IFA7 World Championship 2026 represents more than just an on-field achievement.
This success signifies Indonesia’s growing presence in the global FA7 football scene. Reaching the final, defeating Brazil, and finishing as world runners-up form a strong foundation for the sport’s development in the country.
With valuable experience gained in Honduras, FA7 Indonesia now holds a solid platform to advance further and build a new generation of more competitive players.
It is hoped that this historic milestone will mark the beginning of greater achievements, ultimately leading to the dream of seeing the Red and White flag raised as world champions in future editions.
