Footballers always need to stay alert during a game—but few would expect danger to come from the medical team itself. In Ecuador, a most unusual incident left players and staff stunned.
During a second-division encounter between El Nacional and LDU Portoviejo, which ended 0–1, visiting player Edison Caicedo was accidentally struck by a medical vehicle on the pitch. The collision occurred right in the middle of play, leaving Caicedo writhing in pain as coaches and teammates rushed to his aid.
Adding to the strangeness of the moment, the medical staff were actually in the process of transporting another injured footballer off the field when the vehicle hit Caicedo. Fortunately, after receiving brief on-field treatment, the defender managed to continue playing.
In the future, Caicedo might think twice before assuming the pitch is clear—just in case another vehicle makes an unexpected appearance on the turf.
