In May alone, Vietnam’s largest island off the southern province of An Giang welcomed 897,000 tourists, up 19% year-on-year, including 165,000 foreign arrivals, up 8%, according to a report from the province’s Department of Tourism.

Phu Quoc has set its target of welcoming 8.5 million tourists this year including 2 million foreigners.

International arrivals to Phu Quoc have surged in recent months, driven by a combination of improved accessibility, favorable visa policies, and expanding tourism infrastructure.

The expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport has increased passenger capacity and enabled more direct connections to key markets such as South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan.

The island’s 30-day visa exemption policy has also made travel more convenient for foreign visitors by simplifying entry procedures.

Bui Quoc Thai, director of the tourism department, said Phu Quoc has become a driving force behind promoting An Giang’s image to the world, helping enhance its reputation and competitiveness as a regional tourism destination.

To enhance the visitor experience, local authorities have recently launched a rapid-response tourism team and introduced a code of conduct designed to protect tourists’ rights, respond swiftly to incidents, and maintain a safe, transparent, and well-regulated environment.
