CM Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme: A major update has emerged regarding Maharashtra's popular 'Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme.' After the completion of the e-KYC process, around 80 lakh women have been dropped from this scheme. According to official government data, following the expiration of the e-KYC deadline, the number of scheme beneficiaries has declined from 2.4 crore to approximately 1.7 crore. Officials state that this reduction is not solely due to the failure to complete the procedural formalities, but also because many individuals failed to meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.

What Has the Government Said?

It is worth noting that a senior official revealed the government had provided beneficiaries with a window of approximately eight months to complete their e-KYC verification. During this period, many women failed to complete the necessary procedure. According to the data, around 50 to 55 lakh women did not complete their e-KYC, while 2 to 3 lakh women successfully rectified their errors.

Meanwhile, approximately 12 lakh women were identified as income tax payers, with their annual income exceeding the prescribed limit of ₹2.5 lakh. Additionally, over 4.5 lakh women were found to be above the age of 65. Furthermore, around 5 lakh women were already availing benefits under the 'Namo Shetkari Scheme.' The government has stated that all these cases are currently undergoing a re-verification process, and the final list of beneficiaries will be clarified shortly.

Is e-KYC the Sole Reason?

Officials have also clarified that the exclusion of these 80 lakh women was not solely due to their failure to complete the e-KYC process. In numerous instances, names were removed because the individuals did not fulfill the requisite eligibility criteria for the scheme.

What Happens Next?

Currently, the government has stated that the data regarding all beneficiaries will be finalized only after cross-verification. Additionally, the cases of women who believe that their names were erroneously removed are also being investigated.
