Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sign Belinho after initiating contact with the 17-year-old prodigy, according to fresh reports.
Rafael Gomes Cirinho, popularly known as Belinho, has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young footballers, with academy scouts rating him among the elite talents in his age group.
Despite standing at just 5’5″, the left-footed forward is renowned for his fearless dribbling and willingness to take on defenders far bigger than him physically.
Usually deployed as an attacking midfielder, Belinho tends to drift wide on the right flank before cutting inside onto his stronger left foot, often creating havoc for opposition defences.
Combining blistering pace with outstanding technical ability, his first few yards of acceleration are particularly explosive, while his increasingly composed decision-making marks him as a player destined for the highest level.
According to Attacking Football, some observers believe Belinho has “the potential to become the next Neymar,” a comparison that helps explain Manchester United’s recent move to “make contact and register their interest.”
However, the Red Devils face stiff competition for his signature. Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly ready to battle United, while Spanish giants FC Barcelona have also entered the race.
Barcelona are considered United’s toughest rivals in this pursuit, having already held discussions with Belinho about a move to Camp Nou. For a Brazilian-born youngster, the prospect of wearing the famous Blaugrana colours presents a particularly strong attraction that English clubs may struggle to match.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Belinho graduated from Vasco da Gama’s highly respected academy before relocating to Croatia as a youngster. Having since obtained Croatian citizenship, he remains eligible to represent either Brazil or Croatia at the international level.
Attacking Football adds that “no deal will be finalised” until 2027, as Belinho only turns 18 in January. Current regulations prevent English clubs from signing foreign players under that age, and the move will come at a significant cost.
The report clarifies: “United will not be able to secure Belinho for less than €10 million. His transfer fee is expected to exceed that figure, and clubs like Barcelona — who, as mentioned, have already met with the player and his father — will be among those vying for his signature when the time arrives.”
Nevertheless, the fact that United have already begun talks signals their proactive approach under INEOS, reaffirming their determination to attract top young prospects from around the world.
Recent youth signings such as Chido Obi from Arsenal, Sekou Kone from Malian side Guidars FC, and Diego Leon from Paraguay’s Cerro Porteno underscore this strategy. Yet, if United manage to land the “next Neymar,” it could well prove to be their most exciting youth acquisition to date.
