Ahmedabad: The final match of Tata IPL 2026 brought double disappointment for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Tim David. Tim David has been fined a hefty 50 per cent of his match fee for losing his temper on the field during the title match played against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Along with this, he has also been given two demerit points, due to which he has now been banned for one match.

Ice bag was thrown towards umpire Nitin Menon

This entire incident happened in the 10th over of the first innings of the match against Gujarat Titans. After the fall of one wicket during the over, Tim David suddenly lost his temper and threw an ‘ice bag’ (ice bag) in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon in a very aggressive and dangerous manner.

This action of David was considered a serious violation of Article 2.9 (Level 1) of the IPL Code of Conduct. This rule prohibits throwing the ball or any cricket equipment (such as a water bottle or other item) in a dangerous manner at any player, umpire or referee during a match.

Tim David admitted his serious mistake after the match and accepted the punishment given by match referee Javagal Srinath without any appeal.

David will not be able to play the first match of the next season

Tim David has been a victim of continuous indiscipline throughout this season, the consequences of which he will now have to bear. It was his third Level-1 offense this season:

1. First offense (Match No. 20): 1 demerit point was awarded.
2. Second offense (Match No. 54): 2 demerit points were awarded.
3. Third offense (final match): 2 more demerit points awarded.

A total of 5 demerit points have now been credited to his account. According to IPL rules, having this many points makes it mandatory for a player to be banned for one match. Under this, Tim David will be suspended from the first match of RCB in the next IPL season (IPL 2027). Even if he plays for another franchise in 2027, he will still have to sit out the first match of that season.
