Ruben Dias has expressed Portugal's determination to help Cristiano Ronaldo achieve glory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese national team defender revealed that the squad is fully motivated to ensure their captain’s dream of lifting the World Cup becomes reality.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, beginning on June 11.
Among all participating nations, Portugal is one of the most anticipated teams to watch.
The Selecao das Quinas currently boast one of their strongest and most promising squads in years, featuring remarkable depth and quality across all positions.
Portugal’s lineup includes several top-tier players, notably a quartet from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG): Vitinha, Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes, and Goncalo Ramos.
These four have played pivotal roles in helping PSG defend their UEFA Champions League title this season.
With such an impressive roster, Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-standing dream of winning his first World Cup trophy may finally come true this year.
The 2026 tournament is expected to be the final World Cup appearance for Ronaldo, making it his last chance to capture the only major title missing from his illustrious career.
Speaking about Ronaldo’s ambition, Ruben Dias emphasized that their captain’s desire to win serves as an extra source of motivation for the entire squad to give their all in pursuit of the championship.
The Manchester City defender shared his thoughts during an interview with A Bola.
“It’s definitely an additional motivation for us,” said Dias, as quoted by Sportskeeda via BolaSport.com.
“It would be an honour for all of us to deliver that special moment for him, for ourselves, for the people of Portugal, and for our families.”
“This goal is not a source of pressure, but rather a unique desire to be part of the World Cup.”
“We want to get there and win,” added the 29-year-old defender.
In the 2026 World Cup, Portugal have been placed in Group K, where they will face DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and South American powerhouse Colombia.
On paper, Portugal are clear favourites, but head coach Roberto Martinez will surely remind his players not to underestimate their opponents.
As part of their final preparations before heading to North America, Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates are scheduled to play two friendly matches.
Portugal will take on Chile on June 6, followed by their final warm-up fixture against Nigeria on June 10.
