Atlético Madrid could soon face a major attacking shake-up, with Antoine Griezmann already on his way out and Julian Álvarez also being linked with a potential departure. In preparation, the club is reportedly keeping a close watch on Victor Osimhen as a possible replacement.
Tensions between Atlético and FC Barcelona have escalated recently following reports that the Catalan giants are intensifying their pursuit of Álvarez. Media sources have suggested that Barcelona are nearing an agreement with the Argentine World Cup winner, a development that has not gone down well in Madrid.
Atlético officials have firmly dismissed the rumours, insisting that they have no intention of parting ways with Álvarez. The club described the 26-year-old forward as a “key pillar of their sporting project” and emphasized his importance to their future plans.
Despite Atlético’s stance, Mundo Deportivo revealed on Monday that Barcelona have officially submitted an opening offer worth 100 million euros via email to the Madrid-based club.
However, Barcelona are not the only side interested in Álvarez. Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and English Premier League champions Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
As Atlético prepare for a significant attacking rebuild, Victor Osimhen has emerged as one of the leading candidates under consideration. Given the uncertainty surrounding Álvarez’s future, it makes sense that the club would explore high-profile alternatives to maintain their attacking strength.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Atlético—who finished fourth in La Liga last season—have identified Osimhen as a potential target. The Nigerian striker, who joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal last summer following a successful loan spell, has been instrumental in helping the Turkish club secure back-to-back league titles.
Osimhen’s contract with Galatasaray runs until 2029, meaning any interested club would need to pay a transfer fee in the range of 70 to 100 million euros. The former Wolfsburg forward is also reportedly a top target for Manchester United.
Regardless of Álvarez’s future, Atlético’s need to reinforce their attack remains pressing. With the departure of Antoine Griezmann, the Rojiblancos are set to lose one of their most consistent sources of goals and assists.
