PONTIANAK – The excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has truly taken over every corner of Pontianak City.
Numerous coffee shops and cafés along Jalan Reformasi, Jalan Gajah Mada, and the Podomoro area have started preparing to host community viewing events to entertain football fans eager to enjoy the world's biggest sporting spectacle.
However, despite the massive enthusiasm for this global football tournament, the Pontianak City Government has issued a firm reminder.
The local government emphasized that the Mayor’s Regulation (Perwali) concerning nighttime activity restrictions for minors will continue to be enforced without exception.

Pontianak Deputy Mayor Bahasan strongly urged parents not to use the World Cup as an excuse to relax their supervision of their children. The city’s curfew regulations for minors remain fully in effect.
“That regulation is already in force, and we will continue implementing it,” said Bahasan during an interview at the Pontianak City DPRD Building on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Remember! Hanging Out Allowed Only Until 10 PM
For Pontianak residents, especially teenagers, this rule must be noted carefully to avoid being caught in a Satpol PP patrol while hanging out late at night:
Main Rule: Minors are strictly prohibited from being outside their homes or wandering around without a clear purpose after 10:00 PM WIB.
Exceptions: The rule does not apply if the child is directly accompanied by a parent or has an urgent and accountable reason, such as medical or educational matters.
This preventive measure is considered crucial since time zone differences often cause 2026 World Cup matches to be broadcast late at night or early morning in Indonesia’s Western Time Zone (WIB).
Deputy Mayor: Watching from Home Is Safer
Responding to the strong enthusiasm of Pontianak residents who love to find popular coffee shops to watch matches together, Bahasan emphasized that one can still enjoy the World Cup’s excitement without leaving home.
Moreover, the central government has guaranteed free broadcast access for the public to enjoy the tournament nationwide.
“You can watch from home, or anywhere. In fact, as instructed by the President, TVRI will broadcast the matches free of charge,” Bahasan explained.
He added that the enforcement of the Mayor’s Regulation during the football fever should be viewed positively—as a collective effort by the city’s community to maintain public order, reduce juvenile delinquency, and prevent possible clashes between supporters late at night.
“This is a clear signal. It’s now up to us—the government, citizens, and all stakeholders in Pontianak—to maintain and implement this together,” he concluded.
