LPG Cylinder Rates: The price of a domestic LPG cylinder stands at ₹912 in Delhi, ₹913 in Mumbai, and ₹920 in Ahmedabad. This means that prices currently fall within the range of ₹900 to ₹1,000, or slightly higher.
LPG Cylinders: The ongoing conflict between Iran and the US has resulted in a continuous surge in crude oil prices. Consequently, the prices of petrol and diesel within the country have also been hiked. In March, the price of domestic LPG cylinders saw an increase of ₹60. Commercial cylinder rates also rose—first by ₹993 in May, and subsequently by ₹42 in June. However, despite these increases, over 100 million families in India are receiving LPG cylinders at a price that is ₹587 lower than the actual supply rate.
Price Significantly Lower Than the Supply Rate
Following fluctuations in the international market, the actual supply cost of LPG in India works out to approximately ₹1,200; however, due to subsidies, consumers are paying a much lower price. General citizens who do not receive subsidies are currently paying around ₹913 per cylinder—which is ₹287 less than the actual supply rate. Meanwhile, the government is providing an additional subsidy to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Under this scheme, the government deposits a direct subsidy (DBT) of ₹300 per cylinder into the bank accounts of beneficiaries. As a result, they end up paying only ₹613 per cylinder. Furthermore, in certain states where VAT (Value Added Tax) is lower, or where the state government provides an additional subsidy of ₹20–25, the effective price drops to as low as ₹587.
