Gold-Silver Rates Today (June 4): A slight dip in gold prices is being witnessed across the country today. Following a sharp decline yesterday—June 3—a marginal recovery was indeed observed during early futures trading (MCX) this morning; however, at the retail level, prices remain significantly below their recent highs. Today, the price of 24-carat pure gold is hovering roughly between ₹159,380 and ₹156,360 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, the price of 22-carat gold—typically used for jewelry—is holding steady today at levels ranging from ₹143,100 to ₹146,340 per 10 grams.

Why Did Gold Prices Fall Today?

Fears regarding a deepening of geopolitical tensions have intensified due to the recent military standoff between the United States and Iran. If tensions escalate, crude oil prices are likely to surge as well. This would sustain fears of rising inflation. Should inflation rise, the US Federal Reserve is expected to adopt a hawkish stance on interest rates, keeping them elevated. With higher interest rates, investors are likely to channel their funds into bank bonds or other government schemes, given that gold does not yield any interest or dividends. Consequently, a decline in the demand for gold would lead to a drop in its prices.
