Oliver Glasner has reportedly become AC Milan’s top choice for the managerial position following an extensive six-hour meeting with club owner Gerry Cardinale and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Austrian coach is said to be fascinated by the idea of taking charge in Serie A, even as Premier League side Fulham keep a close watch on his availability while exploring possible replacements for Marco Silva.
Glasner has now moved ahead in Milan’s managerial shortlist.
The Rossoneri’s rebuilding process appears to be gathering pace, with Cardinale personally initiating discussions with Glasner, who is expected to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season. According to reports from Gazzetta, the two met in Germany for a session that stretched to nearly six hours, a clear sign of Milan’s determination to bring the Austrian on board as part of their long-term vision. Ibrahimovic also participated in the talks as Milan continue their search for a successor to Massimiliano Allegri.
Glasner is said to be drawn to the AC Milan project.
For the 51-year-old tactician, the opportunity to manage one of Europe’s most iconic clubs is highly appealing. Having already built a successful career across Austria, Germany, and England, Glasner is reportedly eager to test himself in a fourth European league. The allure of Serie A combined with the challenge of leading Milan through a transitional phase aligns perfectly with his career goals.
Milan are focusing their search on a manager with international experience and a progressive tactical mindset. Glasner fits this description seamlessly, having previously lifted the Europa League trophy with Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to the Premier League, where he recently guided Crystal Palace to a Europa Conference League triumph.
However, Milan may face competition in their bid to secure Glasner’s services.
Although the Rossoneri have identified Glasner as a priority target, Fulham are also positioning themselves to act quickly. Reports from SportsBoom indicate that the London club view the Austrian as their first choice should Marco Silva make a move to Benfica. Fulham’s management reportedly believes Glasner’s experience and tactical acumen could help the team push for European qualification and strengthen their reputation in the Premier League.
This growing interest could prompt Milan to speed up their negotiations if they wish to finalise an agreement soon. Glasner’s successful stints across multiple leagues have made him one of the most in-demand coaches currently on the market.
With both clubs weighing their options, a decision appears to be on the horizon. Milan have yet to issue an official statement regarding their managerial search, but internal discussions are said to be ongoing. Greater clarity is expected in the coming weeks as the Rossoneri decide whether to formalise their offer. Meanwhile, Fulham’s pursuit could add urgency to the situation, setting up a potential battle for Glasner’s signature.
