An act of compassion from a patron at a movie theater has significantly impacted the life of an 85-year-old woman from Tennessee, who has dedicated nearly 50 years to her job at the cinema. Strangers from all over the nation united to assist her in retiring comfortably.

Brooklyn Green was at a cinema in Maryville, Tennessee, when she spotted Mary Ellen Eron diligently working her shift, managing a heavy garbage bag and a cleaning cart. The sight compelled Green to take action. She recorded a video of the moment, captioning it: "Let's secretly help retire this beautiful woman. No one deserves to work at this age." The video quickly gained traction, amassing over 13 million views.

Green admitted she knew nothing about Eron at the time, not even her name. However, she recognized the hard work and effort Eron was putting in, which inspired her. "I just decided that she was working so hard, and I aspired to be like her one day," Green shared.

After discovering that Eron had served as a theater employee for 45 years, Green initiated a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $200,000. The response was incredible, with over 7,500 individuals contributing before Green decided to pause the fundraiser. By that time, a total of $146,317 had been collected, as reported by various sources.

On Wednesday, Green shared the moment she revealed the total amount to Eron. Her reaction was priceless. "Oh my goodness. That's a lot of money," she exclaimed, processing the figure presented to her.

Green replied, "That's a lot of money and you deserve every bit of it."

Eron expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the thousands who contributed, stating she felt overwhelmed and blessed. "I'm overwhelmed and certainly blessed by the Lord and you wonderful people," she said. "Thank you once more."

The theater manager confirmed that the choice of when to retire rests solely with Eron. Outside of her job, she is known for her charitable work with the homeless and her active participation in her local church.
