On 4 June 2026, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez announced that he intends to make a transfer offer exceeding €150 million for a player currently featuring in the UEFA Champions League. “On Tuesday, I plan to make an offer worth more than €150 million for a Champions League player,” Pérez stated. “If completed, it would represent the largest transfer expenditure in Real Madrid’s history,” he added.

Pérez offered some hints about the potential signing, clarifying that the player does not belong to any Premier League club but participates in the Champions League and plays either as a midfielder or an attacker. “It’s neither Haaland nor Kane. You will never guess who it is,” he remarked during his conversation with television host Iker Jiménez.

The Real Madrid president also mentioned that he would pursue the signing of Denzel Dumfries if he is re-elected as the club’s president.

Appearing on the television programme 'Horizonte', Pérez was interviewed by Iker Jiménez and reiterated the same points he had previously made during the press conference where he announced the upcoming presidential elections at Real Madrid.

Commenting on his rival Enrique Riquelme’s campaign claims, Pérez said, “Everyone has denied the Haaland story, so this candidacy looks like a bluff.”

He continued, “Criticism doesn’t affect me. What truly bothers me is when some individuals try to interfere with Real Madrid, and Riquelme’s father was one of them.”

Pérez also addressed internal disputes at the club, saying, “Infighting at Real Madrid has always been common; it happens every year. What’s unusual is when someone decides to leak it.”

Highlighting his accomplishments, he stated, “You don’t win every time, but during my tenure, we have secured 66 titles. No other president has won as many European Cups as I have.”

Praising former coach José Mourinho, Pérez said, “Mourinho was crucial for us. He brought the competitiveness we needed, and after his departure, we went on to win the Champions League.”

He also referenced the club’s financial strength, noting, “According to Forbes, Real Madrid is now valued at 10 billion euros. When I took charge, we didn’t even have enough funds to pay the players’ salaries.”

Discussing the club’s global appeal, Pérez remarked, “Every player dreams of joining Real Madrid. We have 15 Champions League titles; all the best players want to be part of this club.”

Addressing rumours about his intentions, he said, “They claim I want to sell the club — that’s nonsense. These people don’t understand what it means to go to the stadium with your father when you’re four years old.”

Reflecting on his decision to run for the presidency, Pérez explained, “When I realised the club was heading in the wrong direction, I decided to stand for president. I provided financial guarantees, and the monetary issues were resolved.”
