The Mexico national football team secured a convincing victory in their friendly match against Serbia on Friday (5 June 2026) IST, as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
BOLASPORT.COM – The series of warm-up games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup participants continued, featuring two Group A contenders: the Czech Republic and Mexico.
In the friendly matches held on Friday morning (5 June 2026) IST, both national sides recorded emphatic wins over their respective opponents.
The Czech Republic were the first of the Group A teams to take the field, facing Guatemala earlier in the day.
Playing at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, United States, the team known as “Lokomotiva” claimed a commanding 3-1 victory.
Patrick Schick put the Czech Republic in front early with a goal in the 11th minute.
However, Guatemala equalised in the 40th minute through a long-range strike by William Fajardo.
With the score level at 1-1, the Czech side responded strongly in the second half, adding two more goals.
Those goals came from Tomas Chory in the 72nd minute and Denis Visinsky in the 79th minute.
This win extended their good form, following a 2-1 victory over Kosovo in their previous friendly on 31 May 2026.
After the Czech Republic’s performance, it was Mexico’s turn to test themselves in a friendly against Serbia.
Playing at Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca, Mexico – one of the host nations for the 2026 World Cup – the home team triumphed with an impressive 5-1 scoreline.
This victory came after a spirited comeback, as Mexico had initially fallen behind.
Serbia opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Petar Stanic.
But the lead was short-lived as Mexico struck twice before halftime – Johan Vasquez scored in the 34th minute, followed by an own goal from Stefan Bukinac in the 45+2 minute.
After turning the game around in the first half, “La Tri” added to their tally in the 57th minute through Raul Jimenez.
Javier Aguirre’s men then sealed the rout with an own goal from Adem Avdic in the 72nd minute and a final strike by Luis Chavez in the 90th minute.
This comprehensive win continued Mexico’s strong run in their World Cup warm-up fixtures.
Prior to this, they had also edged past Australia with a narrow 1-0 victory on Sunday (31 May 2026) IST.
