Rafael Leao calls for Premier League move as Arsenal and Manchester United consider transfer options

Portuguese winger Rafael Leao has made a public appeal to Premier League clubs as he seeks a move away from AC Milan ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

The dynamic forward, who has been a key figure at the Rossoneri since joining in 2019 and helped them lift the Serie A title in 2022, is reportedly ready to leave the Italian giants despite having two years remaining on his current deal.

As Portugal prepare for what they hope will be a memorable World Cup campaign, Leao is using the opportunity to attract suitors, with both Arsenal and Manchester United believed to be monitoring the situation closely. Reports also suggest that Turkish side Galatasaray have tabled a substantial offer for his services.

However, Leao is said to prefer a move to either England or Spain.

Speaking about his future, Leao said, “I’m looking for a new challenge. I have already won two trophies in Italy and have been there for quite some time.”

He continued, “The league is improving, but I feel that my style of play would fit better in the Premier League or La Liga, where I could fully express my abilities as a player.”

Leao further added, “If a Premier League opportunity comes along, I would be delighted. I believe I can test my skills against some of the best players in the world there. Competing in such an environment brings out the best in any footballer.”

While Leao’s next destination remains uncertain, any potential transfer is expected to take place after Portugal’s World Cup campaign concludes.

AC Milan are understood to be open to selling the winger following a disappointing season that saw them finish fifth in Serie A.

Leao attributed the team’s struggles to the tactical setup of former manager Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed at the end of the campaign.

“It was a tough season. We missed out on the Champions League, and I played through a groin injury for four to five months, often in a position that didn’t suit me. The tactical system didn’t help my game,” Leao explained.

He added, “I felt capable of making a difference, but the way we played didn’t allow me to do so. By the end, it really took a toll on me.”
