The Indonesian women's national volleyball team secured a victorious start in their opening match at the AVC Nations Cup 2026, held on Saturday (6 June 2026) at Candon City Arena, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
Led by Arsela Nuari, Indonesia defeated Iran with a 3-1 set scoreline (25-15, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-22).
The team under coach Marcos Sugiyama earned the win comfortably, displaying a solid and confident performance throughout the match.
Overall, the Indonesian women's team delivered an impressive display, effectively identifying gaps in Iran’s defense when building their attacks.
Repeated strikes from positions two and four consistently became new sources of points for Indonesia’s talented players.
Among the standout performers were Arsela, Ersandrina Devega, and Medi Yoku, who shone brightly on the court.
The players immediately demonstrated strong form in the opening set, maintaining momentum from the early stages.
Setter Arneta skillfully distributed the ball to Arsela and Ersandrina, who acted as the team’s primary scorers.
Indonesia took a commanding 13-8 lead, signaling their dominance in the first set.

Indonesia maintained their lead comfortably as they reached 18 points, with Iran unable to halt their attacking rhythm.
Arneta’s consistent ball distribution continued to open up scoring opportunities for Indonesia’s hitters.
Iran’s performance failed to improve, struggling with poor receptions and ineffective attack-building, allowing Indonesia to extend their lead further.
The Merah Putih (Red and White) squad eventually closed the first set with a commanding 25-15 victory over Iran.
In the second set, Indonesia’s performance dipped slightly, committing several unforced errors that allowed Iran to gain some momentum.
However, this did not significantly alter the course of the match, as Indonesia regained control in the third and fourth sets.
Coach Marcos Sugiyama appeared to remind his players to stay focused, and following a composed performance, they sealed the win with a 3-1 set score.
Other Southeast Asian representatives, the Philippines and Vietnam, also recorded victories in the women’s division of the AVC Nations Cup 2026.
The Philippines secured a convincing win over Uzbekistan, sweeping the match in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-14).
The scoreboard reflected the Philippines’ dominance as they fielded their best lineup and received strong support from their home crowd, making it easy to overpower Uzbekistan swiftly.
Vietnam delivered an even more emphatic result, crushing Lebanon 3-0. The first set was particularly one-sided, with Vietnam allowing Lebanon only three points, winning 25-3 — a highly unusual score in professional volleyball.
Although Lebanon improved in the following sets, scoring more than 10 points each time, Vietnam maintained control to win 25-15 and 25-14.
