The only test between India and Afghanistan is being played in Mullanpur. Today (June 7) is the second day of the competition. Team India has declared its first innings on the score of 564/8. Captain Shubhman Gill (126) and KL Rahul (100) played century innings. Whereas Rishabh Pant and Sai Sudarshan scored 81-81 runs. Washington Sundar remained unbeaten after scoring 52 runs.
Mohammad Salim was the most successful bowler from Afghanistan. This right-handed pacer took 6 wickets for 140 runs. With this Salim has made a big record. He has become the second Afghan fast bowler to take 6 or more wickets in an innings of a Test match. Salim has also achieved the second best bowling figure by an Afghan pacer.
Best bowling figure of Afghan pacers in a test innings
- Ziaur Rahman – 7/97 vs Zimbabwe, Harare, 2025
- Mohammad Saleem – 6/140 vs India, Mullanpur, 2026
- Nijat Masood – 5/79 vs Bangladesh, Mirpur, 2023
Salim was empty handed in the debut match
Salim made his Test debut in 2024 against Sri Lanka in Baghlan, Afghanistan. At that time he was only 21 years old. Mohammad Salim was left empty handed in that match played at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in Colombo. He bowled 12.1 overs during Sri Lanka’s first innings, after which he walked out of the field. Due to hamstring problem, he could not bowl in the second innings of Sri Lanka.
After a disappointing debut, Salim has now got a chance to play the second Test, in which he has registered his name in the record books by taking wickets of batsmen like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill and Sai Sudarshan.
Salim’s figures are like this
23 year old Salim has played in all three formats for Afghanistan. This is his second Test, before this he has represented the Afghan team in 2 ODIs and 1 T20 International. He has no wickets in his name in ODI and T20 International. That means, all the wickets that Salim has taken in his international career have been taken during the Mullanpur Test only.
Salim has played 17 first class matches so far, in which he has taken 52 wickets. He has taken 61 wickets in List-A, while 32 wickets in T20.
