Ethan Ampadu has described Leeds United’s defining moment of the season as the one that confirmed their Premier League survival, saying it topped even the team’s historic win over Manchester United.

Speaking to LUTV after signing a new four-year contract, Ampadu said, “I think the real standout moment came at the end of the season when we were all together watching the result that guaranteed our place in the Premier League. That was definitely the highlight for all of us.”

Under Daniel Farke’s management, Leeds United ended their Premier League comeback campaign in 14th position, securing safety comfortably with an eight-point cushion. Despite a final-day loss to West Ham, their top-flight status had already been confirmed three matches earlier on Sunday, May 10, when Arsenal’s 1-0 win over relegation-threatened West Ham sealed their survival.

The season had several memorable highs, including a home win at Elland Road against Chelsea, an FA Cup semi-final appearance at Wembley, and a 2-1 league triumph at Manchester United in April. That Old Trafford victory was particularly special as Leeds had not defeated the Red Devils in a league fixture since 1981, with Noah Okafor netting both goals for the visitors.

Reflecting on the Manchester United match, Ampadu added, “The game against Man United was massive. It wasn’t just special for the players and staff, but for the entire club. To win there in the league after more than 40 years, I could truly see what it meant to everyone. Hearing that it was the standout moment for so many people across the city was incredible.”

He continued, “Our goal from the outset of the season was to stay in the Premier League, and that was the moment when it was officially achieved. It was definitely an evening worth celebrating together.”
