Three Air India narrowbody aircraft parked at Terminal 2 of Delhi International Airport sustained damage after ground support equipment was blown into them during a sudden spell of strong winds and heavy rain, airport authorities said.
According to the airport operator, the incident occurred on Sunday when severe weather conditions caused ground equipment belonging to Air India Engineering and IndiGo to shift from its position, colliding with the parked aircraft. A video of the incident is going viral on the social media.
Following the incident, all three affected aircraft were temporarily withdrawn from service for inspection and repairs.
The airport operator stated that no weather warning regarding the sudden change in conditions had been issued by Air Traffic Control to either the airport management or airlines.
While Air India declined to comment on the incident, an airline source confirmed that aircraft belonging to other carriers were also affected by the adverse weather.
The source added that two of the three damaged Air India aircraft are expected to return to service shortly, while repairs on the third aircraft may take longer to complete. (Inputs from PTI)
