Cuttack: Authorities have apprehended a candidate participating in the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination, organized by the OPSC, for allegedly engaging in cheating using a smartphone and wireless earbuds. Three accomplices were also detained for their involvement in the scheme, as reported by police on Monday.
The individual, named Abhishek Rout, was caught during a routine check at the examination venue located in a private engineering college within the jurisdiction of Markatnagar police. He was swiftly escorted out of the examination hall and handed over to law enforcement.
Investigators revealed that Rout had hidden a smartphone in his trousers and was using an earbud to receive questions during the test. Upon inspection, an earbud was retrieved from his ear, and the concealed smartphone was discovered within his clothing.
Additionally, officials noted that a phone call was ongoing at the time of the inspection. Three individuals outside the examination center were reportedly searching for answers online and relaying them to Rout via the phone call.
The police subsequently arrested Rupesh Jha, Alex Raj Pani, and Soumya Ranjan Sahu for allegedly aiding Rout in the cheating process. All four suspects were later presented before a court.
