A commercial vessel, MT Marivex, located near Masirah Island in Oman, is reportedly sinking following an attack by the U.S. Navy. The crew sent out an emergency distress signal around 1:30 PM after a fire broke out on board. The Ministry of Shipping confirmed that there were 24 Indian sailors on the ship at the time of the incident. According to initial reports, all Indian crew members are currently safe. We are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies abroad, the Indian Navy, and the Ministry of Defence to ensure their safety.
The All India Seafarers Union reported receiving an emergency assistance message from a crew member of MT Marivex following the fire incident. According to the union, a crew member named Mr. Nilesh reached out for immediate help after the event. The union reiterated that all 24 Indian sailors aboard the vessel are reported to be safe based on the preliminary information available. They are closely monitoring the situation and are working with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies abroad, the Indian Navy, and the Ministry of Defence to ensure the safety and well-being of all crew members. The All India Seafarers Union expressed solidarity with the affected sailors and their families, promising to provide updates as more information becomes available. They also expressed hope for a swift resolution regarding the safety and status of all crew members.
